Who Volunteers?
Our volunteers are a diverse group of individuals. They are business owners, retirees, students, professionals and stay-at-home moms. The one thing that they all have in common is a dedication to serving the ill, disabled, and senior residents of East Texas. All it takes is an hour to change the life of a senior or disabled person in need! The process is simple:
- Fill out the digital volunteer application here
- Or you may call and make an appointment: (903) 593-7385
- Choose a day that fits your schedule
- Come in as often as you can
Some of our volunteers are here every day, whereas others come once a week or even once a month.
Home Meal Deliveries
Most routes include between 10-12 stops and are designed to take about an hour. Just stop by the Meals on Wheels East Texas site nearest you in seven counties, pick up your meals, and you are on your way to a truly life-changing experience. We serve 22 sites in the following counties: Gregg, Harrison, Henderson, Smith, Van Zandt, Upshur, and Wood.
The meal delivery moment is also a vital safety check and social encounter. Bring your cheery spirit and a big smile, and you’ll be guaranteed to make your clients’ day!
Meals Fur Pets
Did you know we have a thriving pet food program? Our clients who have a dog or cat receive gallon-sized plastic bags certain weeks of the month to help feed their furry companion. We often need help packaging pet food. It is a fun group volunteer activity for your youth group, Sunday School class, office staff, or club. Contact Meals Fur Pets Coordinator Melissa Miller for information: Melissa.Miller@mowmet.org.
Projects & Events
Meals On Wheels East Texas has special events throughout the year that raise funds for our home-delivered meals. We are looking for help setting up and/or managing small events, support social media efforts, and help requesting in-kind and monetary donations. Contact Marketing and Public Relations Director Miranda Asmussen for information about helping with marketing or events: Miranda.Asmussen@mowmet.org. Contact Executive Director Tiffany Damskov for information about in-kind or monetary donations: Tiffany.Damskov@mowmet.org.
Adopt a Route
Want to provide your staff with an incredible team-building experience? Adopt a Meals on Wheels route together! You can deliver in teams of two and assign each team to one day a week. Not only will your employees develop a stronger camaraderie by uniting together for a cause, but your business will benefit from developing a unique connection to your community. The Adopt-a-Route Partner Program is an excellent and effective way for companies and organizations to involve themselves in the community.
